Is blackface still offensive?
Ok, so Monday night, I got a friend request from a white guy here on my campus. He was in his Halloween costume . He dressed up as a black guy that is in band here. And yes, he was in blackface. I sent him a message telling him about himself and how i was offended by the picture. Oh.. did i mention he tagged the other guy in the pic as well? Me and my friend made a video about this and put it on youtube that night. I wanted to see what my subscribers had to say on the issue. So time goes on and i get some comments from this guy and a video response. Video responses are usually good things…This time, it was not the case. The video response was also accompanied by about 3 comments. The guy was saying i shouldn’t be complaining about blackface as it only gives it publicity, and don’t put the blame on the white man, because it was made popular again by Spike Lee and his movie bamboozles… BULLSHIT!!!… We exchange a few comments, then he starts to blow up my inbox with stuff where black people dress up as white people. I got like 8 messages in about 20 minutes. So I blocked him. Ok it’s over right? WRONG I wake up this morning and I have a message on myspace, yep he found me there!!! Telling me I was running from the truth… So i blocked him there as well. After being blocked twice, he starts to reply to my comments on other youtuber’s videos. He even started sending links to his blackface website to them. Sidenote, he posted my video on his webpage as well… After all this shit , I sent him a message and unblocked him to give him the chance to discuss the subject. He then tried to sway my opinion and make me take back what i said about what happened on campus. I will say the guy didn’t mean anything by what he had done, and he was oblivious to the fact. But nowhere in the video did i over react or get overly pissed about it. Stalker blackface nazi started to bring up all these different cases of whites being made up as blacks in black movies and blacks being made up as other races, telling me i should complain about each of these as well…. GAH BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT!!!
I don’t care what he says. Blackface is a sad historic truth. It was done in a derogatory manner in the past for the amusement of whites. His claim that spike lee sparked it back up is stupid. Blackface is a hurtful thing when done as it was in history. Jet black paint and acting stereotypical…that shit is NOT acceptable. And based on what mr man says, I should just let white people do this as they please, and not complain because it only brings publicity to it. FUCK THAT!! How am i wrong for speaking out against something that is degrading and hurtful? If you just leave it alone, you let others think it’s just fine. “oh have a sense of humor” I do have a sense of humor and i don’t find it funny to degrade a race of people. No matter what race it is, it’s WRONG… After typing this, i want to put my vid back up. I’ll link you and allow you to judge.

Ok, so I have been on youtube for about a year now. Through youtube i have met some very amazing people there. And not only on youtube either. I have run into some cool folks on yahoo groups, here on tumblr, twitter, video games. ETC It seems i am finding so many people that i connect with through the internet, but these people always seem to live 595868435 miles away. Don’t get me wrong, i have friends here that i hang with, but there are just sooo many more that i seem t ofind online that i would love to hang with but most likely will probably never meet =( why must the world be so cruel?
